1519年, フランス ロワール地方, クロ-リュセ城
[1519, Loire, France. Clos Lucé Castle]

だめだ、だめだ。これもうまくいかない...
L: No good, no good. This isn't going well either...

_が出るな、レオナルド。
E: ____ Leonardo. 1

エツィオ
L: Ezio

さっきから何を唸っている
E: What were you just groaning about?

ちょっと遺言状の再々再検討をね...
L: Just reviewing my will & testament.

Page 2
これだけはしっかり決めておかないと
L: I've got to get this finalized

不肖の弟子たちが遺産で揉めるのはいますからね
Since my unworthy disciples will dispute the inheritance.

ああ、でも心配だ。
Aah, but I worry.

葬儀の進行も細かく指示しておかなければ
I must ready detailed instructions for the funeral also.

お前の几帳面は変わらんな
E: ...You're as methodical as ever.

性分ってやつは一生つきまとう。住処がどれだけ変わってもね。
L: It's been in my nature my whole life. No matter how much my home changes. 2

住処...か。昔の俺たちからすればこの平穏は信じかたいだろうな
E: Home...eh? Given the old us, it's hard to believe in this peace and quiet, isn't it?

ええ、本当に
L: Yes, that's true
(thinking) 3
流された血でうす赤く染まっていた
花も水も永遠の都も
今はもう思い出で語るだけの遥か遠い場所だ
Flowers and water and the eternal city4 all stained pale red by the blood that flowed
Now it is just a far off place we only speak of in memories.

まったくあの頃のあなたときたち
血も浮名も垂れ流しで
L: Indeed, for you in those days, blood and scandal both flowed freely. 5

泣いた女性がどれだけいたか
私が知っているだけでもいいと
L: What about those women that cried...? I think I might know.

昔の話だ
E: That's an old story.

ええ、ええ
昔の話ですよ
L: Yes, yes. A thing of the past.

Page 3:
昔話ついでに白状しておきましょうかね
ご存知でした?
私、あなたの事が好きだったんですよ
L: Speaking of old tales, how about I make a confession... Did you know? I liked you.

友人としてではなく、ね
Not as a friend, you know

それも遺言か?
E: Is that also...your testament6, Leonardo?

はは, ただの思い出話ですよ。
L: Haha, just reminiscing.

Page 4:
若い頃は己の鉄の理性を呪ったりしたものですが
今なら分かります
E: When I was young, I used to curse this iron reason of mine but now I understand

ああ、あの辛く若々しい時代は
今日この日々のためにあったのだ とね
L: Ah, those painful, days of our youth are so that today we can have days like this, right?

お前には世話になりっぱなしだった。
何も返せなくて
済まなかった
E: I owe so much to you. I'm sorry I didn't do anything in return.

何をおっしゃいます
水くさい話はなしですよ
L: What are you talking about? No need for formalities. 7

さ、終わったぞ
E: Fine, I'll stop.

今日は何だか体の調子がいい
少し絵筆をとりましょうか
エツィオ、つきあっていただけますか
L: I'm feeling somewhat better today. I think I'll take up the brush for a bit. Ezio, will you join me?

Aaaaand the sadness follows. ;___; Hope you enjoyed!

Translation notes:
Several parts of this broke my brain, either because of the way they spoke, words used, or just because/
1 - I could not for the life of me make out that one kanji and so that sentence will haunt me forever. He's telling Leonardo not to do something, that's all I can tell.
2 - 住処 is literally "habitat, dwelling, house" so Ezio's line about peace (and the subject change) kind of threw me off.
3 - I'm pretty sure these are Leonardo's thoughts.
4 - The kanji 都 is "capital/city" so I think he's just using a flowery word for Rome.
5 - Yet another line that broke my brain. I originally thought Ezio said this (because of the alternating speech bubbles, but the use of あなた makes me think it's Leonardo.
6 - The word used (遺言) is different from the "last will/testament" used above. This one could also mean "last request".
7 - If I'm reading it right, Leonardo says what amounts to "It's not a formal story", which I took to mean, "Don't be so distant/formal." And so although Ezio litterally says "It's over", I took that to mean, "I'll stop (being formal) then."

OH GOD IT'S EVEN MORE SAD WITH THE WORDS OH LEO EVEN CONFESSES AND THEN THEY PAINT AND THERE'S A FLASHBACK AND OH MY GOD IT'S SO BITTERSWEET I CAN'T BEAR IT

Thank you! You did a wonderful job with the translation, and I'm really grateful for it. Do you mind if I link it on my journal so that people can read it? Because people need to read it, holy shit. ;_____;

(naturally, I choose my saddest Leo/Ezio icon for this :C)

I KNOW, ISN'T IT JUST AWFUL? ESPECIALLY SINCE THAT'S THE YEAR AND PLACE WHERE HE DIES. ;_________;

*That's* the kind of scene I'm terrified they'll try to sneak into Revelations and then I'll be all "TOO SAD, CAN'T GO ON" and never finish the game.

Feel free to link to it! I'm happy to share the SOUL CRUSHING MEANING with others.

(OMG I think I've seen that fanart. Is it the one where he takes care of his family & then goes back to sob on Leo's chest? WHYYYY? Why must there be such canon sadness in this fandom? T____T)

I am okay with this scene as long as it's the end for both of them. Make me cry, Ubisoft, but in a way that solidifies the BROTP as the most important of all of Ezio's relationship because it IS, gdi!

Thank you! Hee, totally making a Shiny New Post for it. XD

It is indeed! So fucking sad, WHY IS THIS FANDOM SECRETLY SO FUCKING SAD. You buy the game and you're like: "Sweet, time to go stab some bitches," only Kadar is DEAD and Malik has ONE ARM and Ezio is FOREVER ALONE and HE AND LEO ARE GETTING OLD AND FFFFFFFFFFF

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Almost inevitably it would end up being some engrish translation that wouldn't have been anywhere near as beautiful as the piece deserved. This does a great job.

You're welcome! I'm sure a native speaker could come along and figure out the trickier parts, but I was glad to help.

I felt kind of bad laughing when I hit the 'will' part just because all I was thinking was ...

1. recruit 60 hobos for the hobo march
